Pocahontas is the primary character in the 1995 Disney movie of the same name. She is the daughter of Chief Powhatan, who leads a group of Native Americans in Virginia. Pocahontas has a brave and independent spirit; she formed a forbidden relationship with an English settler named John Smith. The two would eventually fall in love each other. She loves Smith deeply, but the differences between the natives and the settlers cause a war to erupt. This jeopardizes her home and motivates her to find a solution that unites both worlds before any fighting starts.
Pocahontas was named Little Mischief due to her free spirit and strong will, which she inherited from her mother. Her tribe was xenophobic toward white settlers but Pocahontas did not share this attitude.
She fell in love with John Smith, who is the only other member of her tribe not prejudiced against white people. When the second movie takes place, Pocahontas was sent to England as an ambassador on behalf of her tribe.
Pocahontas is a young Native American woman with shamanic powers in the film. Her design was modeled after her voice actress Irene Bedard, who is also Native American. As a free-spirited and noble individual, Pocahontas loves her homeland, nature and adventure. She offers guidance and kindness to those around her and becomes wise beyond her years.
