The television special Happy Birthday, Garfield states that the comic strip Garfield takes place in creator Jim Davis' hometown of Muncie, Indiana. Many aspects of the strip focus on Garfield's laziness, love of lasagna, coffee and diets. Other themes include Garfield's obsessive eating, detest for Mondays and his ability to manipulate people to get what he wants. The strip focuses on the interactions between Garfield, Odie and Jon with occasional appearances from other recurring characters.
